Aachar Paneer Kati Roll
H and I walked all the way from Chelsea to the West Village for lunch today. Not feeling particularly hungry, we stopped at our friend, Payal's, Kati Roll Company, for a light meal.
KRC serves just one dish, the kati roll, which you can order with different fillings. It's nothing but a lightly fried paratha wrapped with marinated grilled veggies, paneer and meats. There were two vegetarian choices - aaloo masala (spicy potato) and aachar panner (pickled cottage cheese).
I ordered an aachar paneer from the self-service counter and also helped myself to a mango juice from the fridge. My kati roll filling was packed with grilled pickled paneer, peppers and onions with a generous heaping of finely chopped green chilis. The portion size was just perfect for lunch. My meal cost less than $5. Wow! No wonder street food is so "in" these days - it's so tasty while being easy on the budget.

PS - Kati rolls taste especially delicious at 3 a.m. in the morning after a long night of bar-hopping. KRC stays open till 4 a.m. so you know where to find yummy food when you are next painting the town red.

is that 'kachra' on the sidewalk in the photo?!!
rums, you are a sharp observer .till you pointed it out i didn't even notice it. it is 'kachra'. lulu, isn't ny supposed to be clean, not with muck lying around in west village?
bangalore has become a fast food afficionado's paradise.
last week when i was there we decided to get some quick stuff to eat from the famous MTR. we got stuffed roti and masala dosa nicely wrapped.you take off the top of the wrapping along the perforation and you are left holding the stuff in your hand which you can eat while working without soiling your hand.but the disappointment was in the substance while the form was appealing. the roti was tough as meat and the masala dosa nothing to write home about.
the road that kati roll company is on is actually very dirty. but rums, i had not noticed the "kachra" till you pointed it out. parts of manhattan can be very dirty and stinky so have no illusions about that.
NP took Amma and me to the fifth floor of the shopping arcade at the end of Brigade Road this past January. We had gone for a shopping trip and ended up being hungry. Amma hogged bizibela from MTR while I chose the chaat option, given my endless fascination with bhel! Though Bangalore offers these dishes, the street food is just not as tasty as those available in Aamchi Mumbai.
i kinda agree with lulu here, i've not had a good experience with street food in b'lore till date!
